WV Fun Flyers - September - 2003

Minutes of the West Virginia Fun Flyers

September 6th 2003 meeting, 2pm

We had about 43 people in attendance and 3 visiting GA planes, a Cessna 150 and two Ercoupes.  Plus, of course, the usual great diversity of food.  Many thanks to the ladies who do the major work in setting up, not forgetting the men who do the ‘grunt’ work.

Communication was discussed, and the difficulties of the communication between so many far flung members.   It was decided to try and organize a “Phone Circle” and to have a hanger diagram in the Lounge with each plane and it’s owner diagramed and listed.

We were informed that the road behind the Hangers is to be bulldozed and fixed up for use, to alleviate the mess made by vehicles in bad weather on the runway side.

There will be a Bean Dinner, with cornbread etc. at the October meeting.

Paul Knapp suggested looking in to hats at the store in Kanawha City, they will make them up as you want them quite reasonable.

Dave Groff was given permission to pick up a dozen folding chairs.

It was decided to delay the purchase of a new swing set until the Spring.

Rufus Duncan is home and getting better daily.

A need to educate pilots on the pattern at the airport.  With having GA planes, Ultralights and Powered Parachutes, we do have three distinct patterns that need to be observed.  There is a board on the hanger (By the restrooms) that depicts the system.  PLEASE OBSERVE.

We were informed of the Vinton County Fly In on September 21st, also at Hales Landing on September 20th

The “Rubber Duck” award was withheld for this month,  and last months recipient ‘graciously’???  agreed to keep the ‘dirty’ duck until the October meeting, thank-you Mud dauber (John Koch).

The Eagle Award was unanimously given to Henry Upton for the fast work he did to clean up the mess made by our Tornado in August.   There were many expressions of thanks for all that Henry does for the club.

Please Excuse the short News Letter this month, as you read this I am out in Salt Lake City, Utah.  Will do better next month.  (Editor)

ATTENTION: PILOTS (or the “Wannabees”)

The Braxton Flying Club is now accepting applications for membership from both private pilots and student pilots. That non-profit club operates a Cessna 172 at very reasonable rates. The club and aircraft are located at the Braxton County Airport near Sutton, WV.

Gretchen Watson, our webmaster says:

“I have added a new page (Pictures) to the website. Some of our members would like to have pictures that they have taken from their planes displayed on the site.

Don’t forget to visit our site at wvfunflyers.com there is a lot of interesting information and links.

ULTRALITE FUEL PUMP

I bought a truck/cart at "Big Lots", an auto, electric fuel pump, fuel filter, and put it all together. I used a battery charger, I already had, to power the fuel pump. The red hose end came from an old fuel pump I had. The electric fuel pump was the expensive item ($90.00) as I wanted one that would really pump fuel. This one is rated at 10psi and 72gph. It fills up the tank in a hurry! I have about $120.00 in the system. I put an 18" piece of copper tubing on the end of the input hose so the hose will pick-up fuel all the way to the bottom of a fuel can. I made the hose long enough to reach into a can setting on the floor. That way, I can use the can on the cart or just stick the copper tube in a can that's setting on the floor... From the internet.

For the lucky recipients of the RUBBER CHICKEN AWARD past, present and future, the following should be of special interest:

Grandpa Bolton’s Recipes for Rubber Chicken...

                                            Fried Rubber Chicken

Cut rubber chicken into small pieces, press as flat as possible, beat an egg and coat pieces with egg then lightly coat with flour. Fry over medium heat until coating is brown and chicken pieces are quite soft.  The flavor will be terrible, bordering disgusting, it's just great to serve unwelcome guests, wonderful for patching tires, plastic swimming pools and inflatable toys.
