WV FUN FLYERS

October 2004

November Meeting and Feed

The next meeting will be Saturday, November 6th, at the Leon Airport. This will be our annual “Men feed the ladies” dinner, and the men will be preparing deep fired turkey. Don’t forget to bring a side dish and soft drinks. Lunch will be at 1:00 pm, with meeting to follow. Also, bring any a trinket or two for the 50/50 drawing.

Wood County Air Show

WVFF was once again well represented at the annual Parkersburg event. Gretchen Watson drove up, carrying extra fuel for the flyers. The trike crew, Steve Doll, Mickey Watson, and Curtis Pack flew up, as well as Gary Price and Chuck Lewis in the MiniMaxes, and Captain Rogers in his Hurricane and Dave Groff in the Titan. (hope I got everyone)

Leon Stuff

Mark Payne is the new owner of the red Spad biplane replica. He now has it at his house for a little refurbishing. It’s final disposition is still up in the air, however (no pun intended), as the more he flies his T-Bird, the more he is liking it. Will mark be the next Leon pilot to transition to tail dragger? Time will tell.

Captain’s Sky Ranger is back at the field and in the air once again, and his hanger is once again overflowing with aircraft.

Mickey has “souped up” his Geo engine on his trike. He has changed the cam and installed a tuned exhaust system, increasing his power significantly. It now sounds like a “real” aircraft as he zooms almost vertically into the sky.

Linzy Hickman has spent a lot of time, since the recent flooding, playing in the dirt. He has been hauling load after load of dirt to his hangar, trying to raise the floor lever above the flood plain. If he goes much higher, he is going to have to hinge the roof to get his planes out.

John Bolton has created a hand thrown, hand painted WVFF plate, depicting various light planes, and donated it to the club. Tom Davis is building a shadowbox display case, and it will be permanently displayed in the pilots lounge (hen house). I, unfortunately, missed the last meeting when it was discussed, so I hope I have this right. It is my understanding that John will create your own custom plate, with your aircraft on it, for $45.00 (but don‘t hold me to that, see John for details). Tom sent me a picture of the plate, which I will try to get in this newsletter, but the copier reproduction of the picture will not do it justice. Check out the real thing in the hen house.
