October - 2006 Meeting/Dinner
It was a real nice day, except for the winds. The poker run had to be cancelled as it may have taken all day for many of the planes to make the trip. Several braved the air for a few short hops around the valley but most did not get into the air until later that afternoon.
Our next meeting will be November 4th and the men will be cooking for the women that day. It was agreed upon at the October meeting that the menu will be turkey and potatoes. If the weather is bad, it will be held at the clinic across the road.
One topic of discussion at the meeting was in regard to the airport radio. At one time it used to be up and running in the lounge and it is felt by some that it would be a good idea to get it back into operating order. However, the chatter may bother those that hang out in the lounge but - it is an airport. Also, many pilots may come to the airport and never even step into the lounge on any given day. How would they know what was happening anyway? Outside speakers were suggested. All those issues are resolvable and more discussion will follow at the November meeting.
We also discussed what to do with all of the older puzzles that were accumulating in the lounge. It was suggested that they could be sold or given to nursing homes. If anyone can use or has use for them, go ahead and do so.
Gallia-Meigs has been doing some airport repairs and is requiring a 30 minute notice on landings. Before going there, check to see if this is still in effect.
We will be discussing the Christmas party at the November meeting.
Leon Stuff
Congratulations - Ron Dixon soloed his powered parachute during October. He has been jumping out of airplanes for many, many years. He has jumped numerous times at Leon and at the Leon October Fest. Now he is also enjoying flying a powered one. I’m sure he will be jumping out of it also - with someone else at the controls of course!
Only a few flew during the October fest this year. The winds were up to 35 mph. Chuck, Kevin, Steve and Mickey braved it for a while but none actually landed at the celebration across the road. Mickey threw the bear out one time and then gave it up. Others that came to parachute jump that day were disappointed.
