WV FUNFLYERS

June 2004

July Meeting and Competition

The July meeting will be Saturday, July 2nd, lunch at 1:00, with meeting to follow. The club will provide hamburgers and hot dogs, please bring a side dish or dessert and soft drinks. This will also be the day for our annual flying competition. Laura Jensen will be the competition chairperson, and she requested all pilots to meet ½ hour before lunch for rules and pilot briefing (although that may change… see the next paragraph. (we’re flexible))

A special meeting has been requested for all owners of aircraft hangared at Leon, to be held at noon Saturday, July 2nd, at Curtis Pack’s clinic, across from the airport. It is very important that you attend if you have an aircraft here.

Don’t forget the work crew assignments for Saturday. If something comes up that you cannot attend Saturday, please make arrangements to get someone to fill in.

Bathrooms -- Phyllis Skeen Tables -- Bret Shirley

Hen House -- Ron & Marge Rife Trash -- Chuck Lewis

Cooking -- Blair Ellison & Laura Jensen

Special Eagle Award

At the June meeting, a special Eagle Award was bestowed upon all those involved in assisting in any way during the recent accident involving Dave Groff, Captain Rogers and Roger Boothe. It will be displayed in the Pilot’s Lounge (Hen House).

Dave Groff Update

A few weeks ago, Dave, having a lot of swelling in his entire leg and foot, visited his doctor, where they checked with an ultrasound and found a blood clot. He was then hospitalized for five days while they thinned his blood. He is now taking blood thinners and must have his blood analyzed weekly. He is healing well, and can now put 75% of his weight on the leg and has good range of motion in his knee. He has discarded his walker and is now on crutches. He is hoping to be out and about by August meeting time.

4th of July Parade

We will again participate in the Buffalo parade, Monday. Rainne Beller will again provide the large trailer, and Captain Rogers will have an entry also. We should have more info at the meeting Saturday as to times to meet for decoration, etc.

Dues

If you haven’t paid your dues in the last couple months, you’re late! See Laura Jensen or send to : Laura Jensen

Leon Stuff

Congratulations to Darian and Gina Fields on the birth of their new baby girl.

John Bolton is now the proud owner of the Titan Tornado, previously owned by Captain Rogers, and has made several shakedown flights, learning the characteristics of the plane (and you couldn’t beat the smile off of his face with a ball bat).

Tom Bloss has removed the fuel tank from his Sparrow, to repair a leak that was filling his cockpit and draining to the ground. He also has purchased a ULII 02 engine from Ron Hyre, as he is considering changing from the ½ VW engine currently installed.

Melvin Miller recently flew his HIMax, after a several month absence. Good to see them both (Melvin and HiMax) in the air again.

ATTENTION PPC’s and PPG’s: The alternate runway area (21L 3R ??) is no longer available for use at the airport. You must use the main runway.

Website Stuff

Don’t miss the regular (or semi-regular) updates Gretchen and others post on the web at wvfunflyers.com. I occasionally steal some of Gretchen’s reports for this newsletter, however there is much more there that I don’t have room for here. Click on “NEWS FLASH” for the latest and greatest reports and pictures, including Doc‘s Experimental Balloon Gathering story, and photos of recent balloon flights at his house. Maybe I’ll have room for it next month.
