WV Fun Flyers - June, 2003
A word from your President
Summer Flying Time is Finally Here!
Finally the rain has let up and the winds have calmed. There is flying at the field. Everyone seems to be brushing off the slime and sludge, drying off and getting into the air. Our community continues to grow with the addition of three new/old planes - a near new powered parachute (the owners are currently taking lessons), Bret Shirleys' 3rd incarnation of his Tukan trike with a 503 (read lightweight trike and much power climb monster!) and last but not least is maiden flight of Jack Humphreys' Affordaplane. I had the pleasure to witness his flight from a seat at 1500 feet and watched the plane fly the pattern. He also flew the next day just to be sure it would really fly. Rumor has it that Bruce Noffsinger has a single place powered parachute under construction. New flyers John Townsend and Rainey Beller continue to log time with long touring flights in the summer evenings. Steve Doll has been trying to wear his new Airborne trike out but at 50 hours has a long way to go since the Airborne is a sturdy machine. Of course, Melvin, Dave and Dave, Gretchen, Mickey, Chuck, Ron, EJ, Rick, Ed, Kevin , Ken, Linzy, Paul, Bruce, Darren and others here and elsewhere have been keeping the skies full. Sorry if I missed you but I look forward to seeing you on the ground or in the air. The next meeting is July 5th with a spot landing, target drop and touch and go competition. It is low stress fun to improve your flying (or observing) skills. See you there! Fly safe, Curtis Question - On Sunday afternoon a trike, Kolb, Hawk, and another plane were spotted flying south of the field in formation. Who were these mystery flyers. - by Curtis Pack.
Minutes Saturday, June 7, 2003
The meeting was opened by our President Curtis Pack at 2:45pm, there were approximately 30 people present.
We were sad to here that Captain Rogers had fallen and broken his hip, and was at the time doing as well as could be expected in the Point Pleasant Hospital. Captain is a fixture at the club, the meetings, and is a prime mover in getting things done. Many times by doing them himself, we signed a card which was to be sent to him.
We also heard that Rufus Duncan, had, suffered a stroke and was in the VA Hospital in Huntington, a card was also sent to Duncan.
It was noted, under old business, that the Hen House (Lounge) needed finishing outside. The windows needed caulking and the whole building had to be painted. It was decided to paint the building Barn Red.
The “Lots-of-Luck lottery is to be drawn at the July meeting, on July 5th.
WE will list all members in the August Newsletter, with name, address, telephone number, and email address (If known). If for any reason you do not want any of your information published please let the editor know.
It was noted that we need some fire extinguishers in the hangers, Doc Curtis said he would donate one to the “Hen House’ If any one would like to donate an extinguisher, or two, please hang them in a conspicuous place in any hanger without one.
We were told that Roger Boothe is completing a 1 ˝ Challenger and a Flightstar.
The Rubber Chicken candidates were Jack Humphries and Gil Watkins. After a great deal of discussion it was awarded to Gil. (Favoritism?)
Birthday noted was Cathy Pack 6/2/03.
There will be a flying competition on the afternoon of the July meeting. A bomb drop – spot landing, with throttle ---- Touch and go.
There will be activities for children also that afternoon.
Laura Jensen, our treasurer, announced a $1032 balance for the club.
