Vinton County Fly-In
Vinton County Fly-In – What a great weekend!!! Captain Rogers and Dave Groff left early Saturday in the Sky Ranger. Ron Rife flew his Challenger over and met Marge who was already there. Chuck flew Kevin’s Mini Max. Curtis and Josh flew the Geo Trike. Mickey and Gretchen flew the TBird. Joe Hite flew an Ercoupe. Steve Doll flew his Red Back Trike. Randy in a Cesna. Kevin, Laura, Jessica, Vicki and Drew drove over on Sunday.
Once we had all arrived there, we spent the rest of Saturday evening taking small flights near the airport. It turned out to be very chilly later on and I would like to thank those at Vinton County Airport for allowing our members to again stay in the lounge area for the night. We got up early the next morning and enjoyed a wonderful breakfast. Many members got in a few flights before the larger planes began arriving.
By one o’clock both sides of the runway were lined up with various types of aircraft as well as the area where we parked our airplanes. The air show began and was a great success. The RC planes put on a good show as well. The food was good with 1500 chickens being barbecued equaling 3000 dinners – they were sold out.
Once the show was over, the great airplane evacuation began. A great number of spectators stayed and watched this event in and of itself. Within an hour and a half almost every plane had left the airport. It was then time for the smaller planes to leave – which were mostly the WV Fun Flyers. It turned out to be a very hazy trip back with visibility at 1000 agl being somewhat limited. All in all however, it was a very good trip. Everyone arrived safely back at Leon.
